Should all school districts have one standard grading system?

School is a place that builds dreams, and brings you forward in your future. But not all schools are the same; thus some schools are less challenging than others.

It’s the place where one learns something new everyday. There are about 2,000 school districts in New Jersey, each having a different grading system. With so many school districts, there are so many different ways to having a better advantage for getting into college. College is something to look forward to for many students. High school is where you make the dream, but college is where your dreams come true.

As a state of over 2,000 school districts, we should have a unified grading system. Meaning, every school in New Jersey should adopt the same universal grading system. This would be the right choice because when one is applying to college, their grading system in high school could be harder than another school district’s system. It wouldn’t be fair. As we all know, your GPA is based off the grades you received in high school. For instance, if you went to any high school in the Woodbridge Township School District, and even if you only got one B+ which was a 90, your GPA would still rank lower then the one who went to school in Edison Township School District.

Overall, all schools in New Jersey should have on unified grading system. This method has a fair chance for all students applying to college. All students should have a equal chance of pursuing their ultimate dream, and having a unified grading system has a better chance for all students.

Misri Patel is a fifteen year old sophomore at Colonia High School. She has grown up in Avenel since she was 2 years old and a younger sister of a 16 year old. Patel is part of many activities in Colonia High School such as the multicultural club, girl’s tennis, student council, interact club, and debate club. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends in her free time. Patel’s absolute favorite things are bags, and shoes. In her free time she enjoys drawing, baking, and going shopping. She also enjoys dancing, she has been dancing since she was 6 years old. Patel’s favorite television show is Grey’s Anatomy. After she graduates high school, her dream is to become a physician assistant. Patel has joined journalism from her interest in writing, and now she is looking forward to be part of the Declaration staff.
